The heart of the city: the market place and the market churchHalle is the biggest city of Saxony-Anhalt with 250 000 inhabitants (5th biggest city in the east of Germany) and was firstly documentary mentioned in 806.Halle lies on the river Saale and is located in middle of Germany.

Most of the historical buildings survived the Second World War.

Thus, Halle is a city of contrasts, showing the beauty of a hanseatic town of the Middle Age and the modernisms of a 21st century university city.

Did you know that Halle:

 *      Got the biggest Chime of bells in the whole wordThe historic city hall.

*      was famous for its salt in the middle age.

*      Is the native place of Georg Friedrich Haendel.

*      was the place where August Hermann Francke founded his famous foundation.

*      Was occupied by the troops of Napoleon in 1806.

*      Had the first electrical tram in Germany (1891).

*      Had the first German University-Hospital in Germany, founded by J. Juncker.

*      had had a citizen named Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg, who became the President of the House of Representatives

(he signed also the American Constitution in 1789).

My family and I live a couple of miles away from the busy city. It is not a suburb since you can get into the city in 15 minutes, but much more quiet. We recently build a house there (a real expensive task to accomplish in Europe). The house is actually way to small (2 families are living in there, separated of course), but who wants to live here forever? The high unemployment rate is a major problem of our state. More and more young people find themselves forced to leave to the western parts of Germany. The opera of Halle
